SOL

BRANDING

Logo and brand development for SOL, an acronym for Style ofLiving. Together with special designers, our assignment was to create a new brand and product. Our idea was to set up a successful sustainable brand.

Working with spacial designers was something I had never done before. It was nice to see the difference between graphic and spatial design and combining it in this project. With this project I only did the branding that's why you will only see my part of this team project.

CHALLENGE
Our challenge was to build the brand from scratch as our "first company". By creating a visual brand identity that reflects the brand personality and values. Communication was a big rol with this assignment, as well as working together with each a different skill set.

about the brand

SOL is one of the products with a simple story. The name SOL is an
abbreviation for Style Of Living. Sol is also the personification of the sun and
a god in the ancient Roman religion. Our idea was to set up a successful sustainable brand. We initially started with sustainable lamps. But SOL wants to spread its wings wider and wider. We are a brand with a strong experience, by which our audience gets a good association with our products. Sustainability, atmosphere, luxury and service are our core values.

mission

Our mission is to make life easier for the consumer through our products and to inspire them for the future. An absolute condition is that our products radiate sustainability, exclusivity, luxury and atmosphere. We mainly appeal to our target group here. We also want to promote the desire for new product developments towards our target group and consumers.

vision

Our vision is to be one of the world-leading brands in sustainable interior. Our lamps will help us to lead to recognition and success. But in addition to the lamps, we will also produce other sustainable interior products. Our products will make the daily life easier for a wide audience, by leaving more time for other daily activities that really matter. Our products are not only helpful, but also exude atmosphere and luxury.

sketches

First I started to explore different shapes and icons by sketching. This stage allows spending less time yet getting better results. By getting the ideas
efficiently on paper ensures that we get the best results that match our visual brand identity.

logo forming

Our core values had to be reflected in our logo, sustainability, atmosphere, luxury and service. The most important thing that should be recognisable in the logo is sustainability and luxury. In this initial phase we started with the logo icon. We have mainly focused on the sun and nature that stands for sustainability.

logo construction

The Golden Ratio is a term that is often used to refer to "perfection".
The fact is that the Golden Ratio builds on the Fibonacci series in which each of the rectangles is proportionally related. We used our circle and line system that works in the same way. The logo consists of the icons below: the leaf, the sun and the lamp. These are incorporated into the logo together and must represent sustainability. The sun also refers to Sol, the Roman word for
sun and the sun god.

primary logo

Our primary goal was to design a visual brand identity that reflects sustainability while remaining luxurious and professional. A person recognises complex objects as a group of simple geometries, which is why we have chosen to give it a minimalist style and logo. To make it easier to compare competitors' logos, we have reduced the level of detail to simple forms. We chose a circle as the basic object for the logo construction to achieve a friendly yet expressive form.

logo variations
Proportion and clear space

The logo needs clear space to be applied properly in the designs. The Proportions and clear space must be maintained for this primary logo. If it's not possible to use these proportions and clear space, use the secondary or narrow space logo. The following margins for this logo: X is the width of S in SOL.
